A betting exchange is an entity which provides trading facilities for retail or bookmaker customers to buy and sell contracts. These contracts are structured as binary options where the payoff is either some fixed amount of money or nothing at all, dependent on the outcome of a future event. Betting exchanges trade heavily on horse racing and sports events, but also offer markets on elections and other current events.

Famous quotes containing the words betting and/or exchange:
“What is faith but a kind of betting or speculation after all? It should be, I bet that my Redeemer liveth.”
—Samuel Butler (18351902)
“To coƶperate in the highest as well as the lowest sense, means to get our living together. I heard it proposed lately that two young men should travel together over the world, the one without money, earning his means as he went, before the mast and behind the plow, the other carrying a bill of exchange in his pocket. It was easy to see that they could not long be companions or coƶperate, since one would not operate at all. They would part at the first interesting crisis in their adventures.”
—Henry David Thoreau (18171862)
