Battle of Dunbar

There were two Battles of Dunbar between England and Scotland, both being English victories.

  • Battle of Dunbar (1296), in the Wars of Scottish Independence.
  • Battle of Dunbar (1650), in the Third English Civil War.

Famous quotes containing the words battle of, battle and/or dunbar:

Nelson’s famous signal before the Battle of Trafalgar was not: “England expects that every man will be a hero.” It said: “England expects that every man will do his duty.” In 1805 that was enough. It should still be.
    Johan Huizinga (1872–1945)

All married couples should learn the art of battle as they should learn the art of making love. Good battle is objective and honest—never vicious or cruel. Good battle is healthy and constructive, and brings to a marriage the principle of equal partnership.
    Ann Landers (b. 1918)

I know what the caged bird feels, alas!
    —Paul Laurence Dunbar (1872–1906)
