Army of The Allies
Otto has also divided his army into three groups:
- The left flank, under the command of Ferrand of Flanders with his Flemish knights - directed by Arnaud of Oudenaarde.
There are the soldiers of Flanders and Hainaut
- The center under the command of Otto and of Thiebaud, Duke of Lorraine, and Henry, Duke of Brabant and Count Philip Courtenay-Namur: there are also many of the Saxon soldiers, knights and infantry of Brabant and Germany.
In the center the German infantry phalanxes formed deep, bristling with pikes and flanked by companies formed in the corner, then the second line, the Saxon infantry in reserve. Meanwhile, Otto stood surrounded by 50 German knights.
- The right flank, under the command of Renaud de Dammartin, also includes the Brabant infantry and English knights - under the command of Count William of Salisbury Longespée.
At the extreme right, the English archers supported the flank of both the Brabant nobility and the Palatinate Lorraines.

Famous quotes containing the words army of, army and/or allies:
“Roach, foulest of creatures,
who attacks with yellow teeth
and an army of cousins big as shoes ...”
—Anne Sexton (19281974)
“What is called common sense is excellent in its department, and as invaluable as the virtue of conformity in the army and navy, for there must be subordination, but uncommon sense, that sense which is common only to the wisest, is as much more excellent as it is more rare.”
—Henry David Thoreau (18171862)
“They tell us that women can bring better things to pass by indirect influence. Try to persuade any man that he will have more weight, more influence, if he gives up his vote, allies himself with no party and relies on influence to achieve his ends! By all means let us use to the utmost whatever influence we have, but in all justice do not ask us to be content with this.”
—Mrs. William C. Gannett, U.S. suffragist. As quoted in History of Woman Suffrage, vol. 5, ch. 8, by Ida Husted Harper (1922)
