Commemoration of The Battle
The Spartans commemorated their victory with a dedication at Delphi of statues of the trierarchs who had fought in the battle. A verse inscription explained the circumstances:
- These men, sailing with Lysander in the swift ships, humbled the might of the city of Cecrops
- And made Lacedaemon of the beautiful choruses the high city of Hellas.

Famous quotes containing the word battle:
“It is a pleasure to stand upon the shore, and to see ships tossed upon the sea: a pleasure to stand in the window of a castle, and to see a battle and the adventures thereof below: but no pleasure is comparable to standing upon the vantage ground of truth ... and to see the errors, and wanderings, and mists, and tempests, in the vale below.”
—Francis Bacon (15611626)
