Bani Zeid (Arabic: بني زيد) is a Palestinian town in the Ramallah and al-Bireh Governorate in the north-central West Bank, located 27 kilometers (17 mi) northwest of Ramallah, about 45 kilometers northwest of Jerusalem and about 6 kilometers (3.7 mi) south-west of Salfit. A town of 5,515 inhabitants, Bani Zeid was created as a merger between the villages of Deir Ghassaneh and Beit Rima. The town owes its name to a Bedouin tribe originally from the Hejaz that was granted ownership of the area in the 12th-13th centuries for serving in the Ayyubid army during the Crusades. During Ottoman rule, Bani Zeid became an administrative subdivision consisting of twenty villages with Deir Ghassaneh being its capital.
