Death
Like his parents, Laura who died at 57 and Evelyn who died at 62, Auberon Waugh, a lifelong smoker, succumbed relatively young: to heart disease at the age of 61. He is buried in the Church of St Peter & St Paul, Combe Florey. Press obituaries were lengthy, and the headline "Auberon Waugh dies" was printed on the placards for the day's London Evening Standard.

Famous quotes containing the word death:
“The whole earth, perpetually steeped in blood, is nothing but an immense altar on which every living thing must be sacrificed without end, without restraint, without respite until the consummation of the world, the extinction of evil, the death of death.”
—Joseph De Maistre (17531821)
“Poor fellow never joyed since the price of oats rose, it was
the death of him.”
—William Shakespeare (15641616)
“Why does man freeze to death trying to reach the North Pole? Why does man drive himself to suffer the steam and heat of the Amazon? Why does he stagger his mind with the mathematics of the sky? Once the question mark has arisen in the human brain the answer must be found, if it takes a hundred years. A thousand years.”
—Walter Reisch (19031963)
