Famous quotes containing the word present:

The Sage of Toronto ... spent several decades marveling at the numerous freedoms created by a “global village” instantly and effortlessly accessible to all. Villages, unlike towns, have always been ruled by conformism, isolation, petty surveillance, boredom and repetitive malicious gossip about the same families. Which is a precise enough description of the global spectacle’s present vulgarity.
    Guy Debord (b. 1931)

When each thing is unique in itself, there can be no comparison made.... There is only this strange recognition of present otherness.
    —D.H. (David Herbert)

Women ... are degraded by the ... propensity to enjoy the present moment, and, at last, despise the freedom which they have not sufficient virtue to struggle to attain.
    Mary Wollstonecraft (1759–1797)
