An ariki (New Zealand, Cook Islands), ‘ariki (Easter Island), aliki (Tokelau, Tuvalu), ali‘i (Samoa, Hawai‘i), ari'i (Society Islands, Tahiti) or ‘eiki (Tonga) is or was a member of a hereditary chiefly or noble rank in Polynesia.
