Move To The US and Death
In 1922, Fokker moved to the United States and later became an US citizen. Here he established the North American branch of his company, the Atlantic Aircraft Corporation. In 1927, Fokker married Violet Austman in New York City. Austman died mysteriously from a fall from their hotel suite on 8 February 1929. In 1931, Fokker sold his American aircraft plants to General Motors, where they became their General Aviation division.
Fokker died in New York in 1939 from pneumococcal meningitis. He had been ill for three weeks, and was 49 years old. In 1940, his ashes were brought to Westerveld Cemetery in Driehuis, where they were buried in the family grave.

Famous quotes containing the words move and/or death:
“Propaganda is a soft weapon; hold it in your hands too long, and it will move about like a snake, and strike the other way.”
—Jean Anouilh (19101987)
“In the twentieth century, death terrifies men less than the absence of real life. All these dead, mechanized, specialized actions, stealing a little bit of life a thousand times a day until the mind and body are exhausted, until that death which is not the end of life but the final saturation with absence.”
—Raoul Vaneigem (b. 1934)
