Private Life

Farriss met his ex-wife, Shelley Blanks, in 1987; they were married on 22 April 1989. The couple has three children: Grace, Josephine and Matthew.

Farriss later wrote the song By My Side with Kirk Pengilly as a tribute to his wife.

In the official INXS autobiography Story to Story Farriss describes his dislike of touring and being away from his family.

Famous quotes containing the words private life, private and/or life:

    Denouement to denouement, he took a personal pride in the
    certain, certain way he lived his own, private life,
    but nevertheless, they shut off his gas; nevertheless,
    the bank foreclosed; nevertheless, the landlord called;
    nevertheless, the radio broke,

    And twelve o’clock arrived just once too often,
    Kenneth Fearing (1902–1961)

    All men, in the abstract, are just and good; what hinders them, in the particular, is, the momentary predominance of the finite and individual over the general truth. The condition of our incarnation in a private self, seems to be, a perpetual tendency to prefer the private law, to obey the private impulse, to the exclusion of the law of the universal being.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)

    For my part, I would rather look toward Rutland than Jerusalem. Rutland,—modern town,—land of ruts,—trivial and worn,—not too sacred,—with no holy sepulchre, but profane green fields and dusty roads, and opportunity to live as holy a life as you can, where the sacredness, if there is any, is all in yourself and not in the place.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)
