Amon Goeth - Execution

Execution

After the war, the Supreme National Tribunal of Poland in Kraków found Goeth guilty of murdering tens of thousands of people. He was hanged on 13 September 1946, at the age of 37, not far from the former site of the Płaszów camp. At his execution, Goeth's hands were tied behind his back. The executioner twice miscalculated the length of rope necessary to hang Goeth, and it was only on the third attempt that the execution was successful.

Famous quotes containing the word execution:

If I were asked to chose between execution and life in prison I would, of course, chose the latter. It’s better to live somehow than not at all.
    Anton Pavlovich Chekhov (1860–1904)

My weakness has always been to prefer the large intention of an unskilful artist to the trivial intention of an accomplished one: in other words, I am more interested in the high ideas of a feeble executant than in the high execution of a feeble thinker.
    Thomas Hardy (1840–1928)

I will soon be going out to shape all the singing tomorrows.
Gabriel Péri, French Communist leader. Letter, July 1942, written shortly before his execution by the Germans. Quoted in New York Times (April 11, 1943)
