Aldridge School - Music Scholarship

Music Scholarship

Aldridge School offers a music scholarship for prospective students who wish to join the school in Year 7. To be eligible, one must play an instrument and undertake a selection process, completing two parts, namely the instrumental audition where one plays two pieces of their own choice and the theory part, similar to a normal music theory paper. Unlike normal selection where one must fall within a 3-mile radius of the school's location to apply, the scholarship process allows anyone to apply, with students coming from as far as Great Barr, West Bromwich and other places around the Birmingham/Staffordshire area. Aldridge has one of the largest state school music departments in the country, with over 50 pupils studying music at A-level.

Famous quotes containing the words music and/or scholarship:

If music in general is an imitation of history, opera in particular is an imitation of human willfulness; it is rooted in the fact that we not only have feelings but insist upon having them at whatever cost to ourselves.... The quality common to all the great operatic roles, e.g., Don Giovanni, Norma, Lucia, Tristan, Isolde, Brünnhilde, is that each of them is a passionate and willful state of being. In real life they would all be bores, even Don Giovanni.
    —W.H. (Wystan Hugh)

Product of a myriad various minds and contending tongues, compact of obscure and minute association, a language has its own abundant and often recondite laws, in the habitual and summary recognition of which scholarship consists.
    Walter Pater (1839–1894)
