—Robert Benchley (18891945)
“The high plains, the beginning of the desert West, often act as a crucible for those who inhabit them. Like Jacobs angel, the region requires that you wrestle with it before it bestows a blessing.”
—Kathleen Norris (b. 1947)
“I go to school to youth to learn the future.”
—Robert Frost (18741963)

But it shows on extreme example of what state-of-the-art scientific parenting was supposed to be in early twentieth-century America. After all, that was the heyday of efficiency experts, time-and-motion studies, and the like.”
—Lawrence Kutner (20th century)
