Strategy of Tension
Aginter Press took part in Italy's strategy of tension, a campaign of false flag bombings and an attempted coup d'état organised by the Italian neo-fascists with support from Propaganda Due (P2) and Gladio, NATO's stay-behind anti-communist networks during the Cold War.
This agency is alleged to have carried out work for various right-wing authoritarian regimes (including Salazar, Franquist Spain, the Greek Regime of the Colonels after the 1967 putsch, etc.) Its agents worked under the cover of reporters or photographers, which allowed them to travel freely.

Famous quotes containing the words strategy and/or tension:
“Our strategy in going after this army is very simple. First we are going to cut it off, and then we are going to kill it.”
—Colin Powell (b. 1937)
“Many people I know in Los Angeles believe that the Sixties ended abruptly on August 9, 1969, ended at the exact moment when word of the murders on Cielo Drive traveled like brushfire through the community, and in a sense this is true. The tension broke that day. The paranoia was fulfilled.”
—Joan Didion (b. 1935)
