Norm Smith Medal
For a complete description, and a list of winners, see Norm Smith Medal.The Norm Smith Medal is presented to the player judged as best on the ground during the Grand Final by a panel of experts. The award is named in honour of Melbourne premiership player and coach Norm Smith, who died in 1973. It was first awarded in 1979, to Carlton's Wayne Harmes, a great nephew of Smith. In time the award has come to carry great prestige as an individual prize.
