Life

Born in Orbe, today in Switzerland, she was the daughter of Rudolf II of Burgundy and Bertha of Swabia. Her first marriage, at the age of fifteen, was to the son of her father's rival in Italy, Lothair II, the nominal King of Italy; the union was part of a political settlement designed to conclude a peace between her father and Hugh of Provence, the father of Lothair. Famous quotes containing the word life:

In the course of a life devoted less to living than to reading, I have verified many times that literary intentions and theories are nothing more than stimuli and that the final work usually ignores or even contradicts them.
    Jorge Luis Borges (1899–1986)

Most of a modest woman’s life was spent, after all, in denying what, in one day at least of every year, was made obvious.
    Virginia Woolf (1882–1941)

She pulled in her horizon like a great fish-net. Pulled it from around the waist of the world and draped it over her shoulder, so much of life in its meshes! She called in her soul to come and see.
    Zora Neale Hurston (1891–1960)
