Special Cases

  • A pre-abelian category is an additive category in which every morphism has a kernel and a cokernel.
  • An abelian category is a pre-abelian category such that every monomorphism and epimorphism is normal.

The additive categories most commonly studied are in fact abelian categories; for example, Ab is an abelian category.

Famous quotes containing the words special and/or cases:

Nature is a setting that fits equally well a comic or a mourning piece. In good health, the air is a cordial of incredible virtue. Crossing a bare common, in snow puddles, at twilight, under a clouded sky, without having in my thoughts any occurrence of special good fortune, I have enjoyed a perfect exhilaration. I am glad to the brink of fear.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)

I have always felt that the real purpose of government is to enhance the lives of people and that a leader can best do that by restraining government in most cases instead of enlarging it at every opportunity.
    Gerald R. Ford (b. 1913)
