He has spent time working with troubled Indigenous youth, including those in youth detention centres, along with his cousin and former teammate Michael O'Loughlin. His mother Lisa May is also involved in community work and works in a nursing home. He and his good friend Michael O'Loughlin have just helped to start an Indigenous football academy. In September 2009 they launched the Goodes O'Loughlin Foundation (www.go-foundation.org) a foundation aimed at empowering the next generation of Indigenous role models in all walks of life across Australia. Adam and Michael co-Chair the Foundation, which focuses on Education, Employment and Healthy Lifestyles.

Goodes' brother Brett is a semi-professional footballer who has played for both the Port Adelaide Magpies in the SANFL and the North Ballarat Roosters in the Victorian Football League and has represented Victoria in interleague matches. Famous quotes containing the words personal and/or life:

We should stop looking to law to provide the final answer.... Law cannot save us from ourselves.... We have to go out and try to accomplish our goals and resolve disagreements by doing what we think is right. That energy and resourcefulness, not millions of legal cubicles, is what was great about America. Let judgment and personal conviction be important again.
Philip K. Howard, U.S. lawyer. The Death of Common Sense: How Law Is Suffocating America, pp. 186-87, Random House (1994)

He can have this old life anytime he wants to. You hear that? Huh, you hear it? Come on. You’re welcome to it, Old Timer. Let me know you’re up there, come on. Love me, hate me, kill me,
anything. Just let me know it.
Donn Pierce, U.S. screenwriter, Frank R. Pierson, and Stuart Rosenberg. Luke Jackson (Paul Newman)
