History
The 9th Parachute Chasseur Regiment was created on 1 June 1956 in Algeria from the 4th Battalion, 18th RIPC and receives its standard from General Sauvagnac in Batna on 11 November. It becomes part of the 25th Parachute Division and was mostly based on the Algerian-Tunisian border. The most notable action took place in April 1958 at Souk Ahras where the sacrifice of the regiments 3rd Company permits the elimination of a large FLN group that was trying to break the Morice Line to reinforce the FLN forces in Algeria.
The regiment didn’t take part in the 1961 Algiers putsch and after the end of the Algerian War it moved to Toulouse on mainland France. The regiment takes part in operations within the UNIFIL in Lebanon and other overseas operations. The regiment was dissolved in 1999 as a part of a restructuring of the French Army.

Famous quotes containing the word history:
“Gossip is charming! History is merely gossip. But scandal is gossip made tedious by morality.”
—Oscar Wilde (18541900)
“To summarize the contentions of this paper then. Firstly, the phrase the meaning of a word is a spurious phrase. Secondly and consequently, a re-examination is needed of phrases like the two which I discuss, being a part of the meaning of and having the same meaning. On these matters, dogmatists require prodding: although history indeed suggests that it may sometimes be better to let sleeping dogmatists lie.”
—J.L. (John Langshaw)
“Universal history is the history of a few metaphors.”
—Jorge Luis Borges (18991986)
