99th Infantry Division (United States) - Heritage

Heritage

United States Army portal

The division's heritage today is continued by the 99th Regional Support Command of the United States Army Reserve, headquartered at Fort Dix, New Jersey. Note: According to the U.S. Army Center of Military History, regional support commands (RSCs), such as the 99th, do not perpetuate the lineage and honors of infantry divisions. RSCs are allowed to wear the shoulder patch and the numerical designation of the divisions, but they are not entitled to the divisional lineage and honors. This is because RSCs are TDA (Table of Distribution & Allowances) units and divisions are TOE (Table of Organization & Equipment) units, and TDA units cannot perpetuate the lineages and honors of TOE units.

Famous quotes containing the word heritage:

It seems to me that upbringings have themes. The parents set the theme, either explicitly or implicitly, and the children pick it up, sometimes accurately and sometimes not so accurately.... The theme may be “Our family has a distinguished heritage that you must live up to” or “No matter what happens, we are fortunate to be together in this lovely corner of the earth” or “We have worked hard so that you can have the opportunities we didn’t have.”
    Calvin Trillin (20th century)

The heritage of the American Revolution is forgotten, and the American government, for better and for worse, has entered into the heritage of Europe as though it were its patrimony—unaware, alas, of the fact that Europe’s declining power was preceded and accompanied by political bankruptcy, the bankruptcy of the nation-state and its concept of sovereignty.
    Hannah Arendt (1906–1975)

There are some things which cannot be learned quickly, and time, which is all we have, must be paid heavily for their acquiring. They are the very simplest things and because it takes a man’s life to know them the little new that each man gets from life is very costly and the only heritage he has to leave.
    Ernest Hemingway (1899–1961)
