9936 Al-Biruni

9936 Al-Biruni is a main belt asteroid. It orbits the Sun once every 5.39 years.

Discovered on August 8, 1986 by Eric Elst and Violeta Ivanova at the Bulgarian National Astronomical Observatory in Smolyan, it was given the provisional designation "1986 PN4". It was later renamed "Al-Biruni" after Al-Biruni, an eleventh century Persian scientist who made important contributions to anthropology, mathematics and astronomy.
