The Momentum 94.7 cycle challenge is the world's second-largest timed cycle race, after the Cape Argus Cycle Race. It is held annually on cycle challenge Sunday, the third Sunday of November in the city of Johannesburg. Between 20,000 and 30,000 participants complete the challenging 94.7-km course every year. The event's main sponsors are 94.7 Highveld Stereo and Momentum.
The 94.7 Mountain Bike Challenge is held the weekend before the road race. It consists of two distances; a 30km race and a 55km race. In 2012 a 40km funride was introduced and took place the day before the 94.7 Mountain Bike Challenge.
Famous quotes containing the words cycle and/or challenge:
“The cycle of the machine is now coming to an end. Man has learned much in the hard discipline and the shrewd, unflinching grasp of practical possibilities that the machine has provided in the last three centuries: but we can no more continue to live in the world of the machine than we could live successfully on the barren surface of the moon.”
—Lewis Mumford (18951990)
“...Womens Studies can amount simply to compensatory history; too often they fail to challenge the intellectual and political structures that must be challenged if women as a group are ever to come into collective, nonexclusionary freedom.”
—Adrienne Rich (b. 1929)
