Founding Principles
924 Gilman Street operates on DIY ethic, whereby members pay $2 per year and are then entitled to make decisions and work for the improvement of the club as a whole. Membership meetings occur at 5 p.m. on the first and third Saturdays of each month. There are four main rules for patrons:
- No drugs
- No alcohol
- No violence
- No racism
The staff will not book or support racist, misogynistic, homophobic, or major label bands for performances. If a band was signed to major label, they were labeled as "sellouts" and not allowed to perform at Gilman. Bands must send in copies of their lyrics in order to book a performance at the venue. Members who espouse racist, misogynistic, or homophobic beliefs, or are signed to major labels are declared persona non grata, as is anyone who brings or deals drugs or alcohol on the premises.

Famous quotes containing the words founding and/or principles:
“... there is no way of measuring the damage to a society when a whole texture of humanity is kept from realizing its own power, when the woman architect who might have reinvented our cities sits barely literate in a semilegal sweatshop on the Texas- Mexican border, when women who should be founding colleges must work their entire lives as domestics ...”
—Adrienne Rich (b. 1929)
“The honor my country shall never be stained by an apology from me for the statement of truth and the performance of duty; nor can I give any explanation of my official acts except such as is due to integrity and justice and consistent with the principles on which our institutions have been framed.”
—Andrew Jackson (17671845)
