Famous quotes containing the word service:

I like the silent church before the service begins, better than any preaching. How far off, how cool, how chaste the persons look, begirt each one with a precinct or sanctuary!
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)

Books can only reveal us to ourselves, and as often as they do us this service we lay them aside.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

The ruin of the human heart is self-interest, which the American merchant calls self-service. We have become a self- service populace, and all our specious comforts—the automatic elevator, the escalator, the cafeteria—are depriving us of volition and moral and physical energy.
    Edward Dahlberg (1900–1977)
