Performance
The A-Square Nosler 140 gr Partition allegedly has 2040 ft pounds of energy at 500 yards and 2080 ft pounds in its 160 grain Nosler. A-Square reports the highest energy out to 500 yards of any cartridge of similar weights. The 140 and 160 grain cartridges have very similar trajectories and this can be checked out in Tom Forkers Ammo 3 where A Square also has the least wind drift and best drop figures of all cartridges. The 160 grain cartridge reportedly drifts only 53 inches with a ten mile per hour (16 km/h) 90 degree crosswind at 1000 yards, and the 160 grain cartridge drops only 200 inches when zeroed at 200 yards. A-Square recommends zeroing its cartridges at 300 yards where the 140 grain merely drops 7.27 inches at 400 yards and the 160 drops a mere 10 plus inches.
==See also== Several companies are making new STW Cartridges that haven't been independently tested as extensively as the A Square cartridges. HSM puts out a soft nose 162 grain cartridge and a 168 grain cartridge with a Berger VLD hollow nose bullet. The soft nose HSM claims a 3150 fps speed at muzzle and 3080 to 3100 for the 168 gr VLD. No ballistic information comes with the bullets for down range shooting nor is their any information on the 162 soft-nose that I can find on the WEB. Drift is most important in long range cartridges and none is supplied. Personal trial is needed for this information now, however a call to the manufacturer may be helpful as they may have generated this information and have not had time to publish it. Conely Cartridge has several STW cartridges and a Web site that gives the bullet drop out to 500 yards for each cartridge. They perhaps have a very fine performer in the 162 grain bullet which has great hitting power and a small drop to 500 yards (approx 30" when centered at 200 yards) The bullet it uses is a Hornady 162 grain which Hornady uses for their 7 mm cartridge, but Hornady, at present, does not participate in the manufacture of STW cartridge, but their 162 bullet seems to be remarkable and may be the lightest acceptable grain for large American bears, if the terminal ballistics are as good as the reported trajectory.
The standard zero for STW cartridges seems to be 275 yards, but 300 yards for exceptionally fast flyers.
All the foregoing information is supplied on line by the referenced manufacturer. It's easy to trace this inforamation and purchases can be made on the manufacturers Web Site. HSM has the cheapest of the 7mm cartridges by about half of the price of its competitors.

Famous quotes containing the word performance:
“The value of old age depends upon the person who reaches it. To some men of early performance it is useless. To others, who are late to develop, it just enables them to finish the job.”
—Thomas Hardy (18401928)
“True balance requires assigning realistic performance expectations to each of our roles. True balance requires us to acknowledge that our performance in some areas is more important than in others. True balance demands that we determine what accomplishments give us honest satisfaction as well as what failures cause us intolerable grief.”
—Melinda M. Marshall (20th century)
“The child to be concerned about is the one who is actively unhappy, [in school].... In the long run, a childs emotional development has a far greater impact on his life than his school performance or the curriculums richness, so it is wise to do everything possible to change a situation in which a child is suffering excessively.”
—Dorothy H. Cohen (20th century)
