Additional Information
The 7.62mm UKM’s main appeal is long-range shooting. Due to the large case capacity in relation to the 7.62 mm (.308 inch) calibre bore size the 7.62mm UKM is harsh on barrels. The 7.62mm UKM typically wears out a rifle barrel in 750 to 1500 rounds. A lot of thorough barrel cleaning (after every 5 to 10 shots) and carefully avoiding long strings of shots help to minimize barrel wear.
The American .300 Dakota proprietary cartridge, based on the .404 Jeffery case, is probably the closest currently (2008) commercially available ballistic twin of the 7.62mm UKM. The .300 Dakota is however a rebated rim cartridge.

Famous quotes containing the words additional and/or information:
“Dog. A kind of additional or subsidiary Deity designed to catch the overflow and surplus of the worlds worship.”
—Ambrose Bierce (18421914)
“We hear a great deal of lamentation these days about writers having all taken themselves to the colleges and universities where they live decorously instead of going out and getting firsthand information about life. The fact is that anybody who has survived his childhood has enough information about life to last him the rest of his days.”
—Flannery OConnor (19251964)
