Famous quotes containing the words post, world, war and/or duties:
“Fear death?to feel the fog in my throat,
The mist in my face,
When the snows begin, and the blasts denote
I am nearing the place,
The power of the night, the press of the storm,
The post of the foe;
Where he stands, the Arch Fear in a visible form,
Yet the strong man must go:”
—Robert Browning (18121889)
“I have not loved the world, nor the world me;
I have not flatterd its rank breath, nor bowd
To its idolatries a patient knee.”
—George Gordon Noel Byron (17881824)
“The inconveniences and horrors of the pox are perfectly well known to every one; but still the disease flourishes and spreads. Several million people were killed in a recent war and half the world ruined; but we all busily go on in courses that make another event of the same sort inevitable. Experientia docet? Experientia doesnt.”
—Aldous Huxley (18941963)
“What between the duties expected of one during ones lifetime, and the duties exacted from one after ones death, land has ceased to be either a profit or a pleasure. It gives one position, and prevents one from keeping it up. Thats all that can be said about land.”
—Oscar Wilde (18541900)
