History in World War II
The 1st Cavalry Division, including 6th Cavalry Brigade, was sent in January 1940 to the Middle East as a garrison and occupation force. On 1 August 1941 the Division was converted into the 10th Armoured Division, and the 6th Cavalry into the 8th Armoured Brigade. 8th Armoured Brigade would take part in the battles at El Alamein and land at Gold Beach on D Day
Regiments in the brigade during the war included:
- The Cheshire Yeomanry
- The Staffordshire Yeomanry
- The Warwickshire Yeomanry
