615th Contingency Response Wing

The 615th Contingency Response Wing, redesignated from the 615th Air Mobility Operations Group on April 11, 2005, was one of two Contingency Response Wings (CRW) assigned to the U.S. Air Force's Air Mobility Command. Headquartered at Travis Air Force Base, California, the primary mission was to employ rapidly deployable cross-functional teams to quickly open forward airbases in an expeditionary environment. The 615th CRW reported to the 15th Expeditionary Mobility Task Force at Travis Air Force Base in California.

The 615th CRW included the 570th Contingency Response Group, the 571st Contingency Response Group, the 572nd Contingency Response Group, and the 615th Contingency Operations Support Group.

In 2011, the 615th CRW opened an air base for the first time in an undisclosed location in Southwest Asia. The base was previously closed.

The 615th Contingency Response Wing was inactivated on May 29, 2012. Command of its contingency response and operations support groups was transferred to the 621st Contingency Response Wing at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst in New Jersey.

Famous quotes containing the words contingency, response and/or wing:

Life, as the most ancient of all metaphors insists, is a journey; and the travel book, in its deceptive simulation of the journey’s fits and starts, rehearses life’s own fragmentation. More even than the novel, it embraces the contingency of things.
    Jonathan Raban (b. 1942)

From time to time I listen to what you are saying, just in case a response is needed.
    Mason Cooley (b. 1927)

Ignorance is the curse of God,
Knowledge the wing wherewith we fly to heaven.
    William Shakespeare (1564–1616)
