The Regiment comprises four infantry battalions and one headquarters company:
- Headquarters Company
- 1st Battalion 5th Marines (1/5)
- 2nd Battalion 5th Marines (2/5)
- 3rd Battalion 5th Marines (3/5)
- 2nd Battalion 4th Marines (2/4)—assigned to the 5th Marine Regiment for historical reasons.
