Origin

In April 1938 the 7th (Leeds Rifles) Battalion of the Prince of Wales's Own West Yorkshire Regiment converted to the armoured role as 45th (Leeds Rifles) Bn, Royal Tank Regiment. The Leeds Rifles was a long-standing Territorial Army (TA) infantry unit, founded by volunteers from the city of Leeds in 1859. In June 1939, the company based at Morley was split off to form the cadre for a duplicate unit, the 51st (Leeds Rifles) Bn, Royal Tank Regiment.

Famous quotes containing the word origin:

The real, then, is that which, sooner or later, information and reasoning would finally result in, and which is therefore independent of the vagaries of me and you. Thus, the very origin of the conception of reality shows that this conception essentially involves the notion of a COMMUNITY, without definite limits, and capable of a definite increase of knowledge.
    Charles Sanders Peirce (1839–1914)

Though I do not believe that a plant will spring up where no seed has been, I have great faith in a seed,—a, to me, equally mysterious origin for it.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

The origin of storms is not in clouds,
our lightning strikes when the earth rises,
    spillways free authentic power:
dead John Brown’s body walking from a tunnel
to break the armored and concluded mind.
    Muriel Rukeyser (1913–1980)
