47th National Hockey League All-Star Game - The Game

The Game

Montreal Canadians' right-winger Mark Recchi had a hat-trick to lead the Eastern Conference to a 11–7 victory and to be named All-Star M.V.P. Mark Recchi would become the fourth Montreal Canadian to receive the award. A record 10 goals was scored in the second period, including two from hometown favorite San Jose Sharks' right-winger Owen Nolan in a record eight seconds. Nolan would complete his hat-trick in the third period as he closed in on a breakaway towards Buffalo Sabres' goaltender Dominik Hasek. Nolan pointed to the top left corner and then fired a shot right off the bar top corner! Gary Thorne called it saying, "here come the chapeaus!". The crowd erupted throwing hats everywhere.

Famous quotes containing the word game:

The notion that the public accepts or rejects anything in modern art ... is merely romantic fiction.... The game is completed and the trophies distributed long before the public knows what has happened.
    Tom Wolfe (b. 1931)

Vanessa wanted to be a ballerina. Dad had such hopes for her.... Corin was the academically brilliant one, and a fencer of Olympic standard. Everything was expected of them, and they fulfilled all expectations. But I was the one of whom nothing was expected. I remember a game the three of us played. Vanessa was the President of the United States, Corin was the British Prime Minister—and I was the royal dog.
    Lynn Redgrave (b. 1943)
