Famous quotes containing the words world, science, fiction and/or convention:

Let us be different in our homes. Let us realize that along with food, shelter, and clothing, we have another obligation to our children, and that is to affirm their “rightness.” The whole world will tell them what’s wrong with them—out loud and often. Our job is to let our children know what’s right about them.
    Adele Faber (20th century)

Every known fact in natural science was divined by the presentiment of somebody, before it was actually verified.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)

... the main concern of the fiction writer is with mystery as it is incarnated in human life.
    Flannery O’Connor (1925–1964)

By convention there is color, by convention sweetness, by
convention bitterness, but in reality there are atoms and space.
    Democritus (c. 460–400 B.C.)
