3rd Battalion 29th Field Artillery Regiment (United States) - Operation Iraqi Freedom 07-09

Operation Iraqi Freedom 07-09

In December 2007, Task Force Pacesetter deployed to the International Zone, commonly called the "Green Zone". There they helped with the security of the Green Zone by controlling the Entry Control Points or ECP, and assisted in the transport of military personal and civilian contractors to the Baghdad International Airport. The Pacesetters were instrumental in redesigning the ECP and increasing the overall security of the International Zone.

Around August 2008, Alpha Battery was reassigned to three different areas outside the Green Zone. Alpha was tasked with increasing the overall security situation in the areas of Suleikh, Adamiyah, and FOB Callahan. While there, Alpha conducted area patrols, terrorists searches and detainment, force protection and public interaction. Alpha distributed grants for schools and businesses, and helped to train the Iraqi Police and Iraqi Army in the areas.

Unfortunately, Task Force Pacesetter lost three of their brethren while deployed to Iraqi this time. One to EFP, one to sniper fire, and one to combat vehicle rollover. The Pacesetters redeployed to Fort Carson, Co in February 2009 completing a 14 month deployment.

Famous quotes containing the words operation, iraqi and/or freedom:

An absolute can only be given in an intuition, while all the rest has to do with analysis. We call intuition here the sympathy by which one is transported into the interior of an object in order to coincide with what there is unique and consequently inexpressible in it. Analysis, on the contrary, is the operation which reduces the object to elements already known.
    Henri Bergson (1859–1941)

I will cut the head off my baby and swallow it if it will make Bush lose.
Zainab Ismael, Iraqi housewife. As quoted in Newsweek magazine, p. 31 (November 16, 1992)

I wish most sincerely there was not a slave in this province. It always appeared a most iniquitous scheme to me—to fight ourselves for what we are daily robbing and plundering from those who have as good a right to freedom as we have.
    Abigail Adams (1744–1818)
