2nd Division (Australia)
The 2nd Division commands all the reserve brigades in Australia. These are the 4th in Victoria, the 5th and 8th in New South Wales, the 9th in South Australia and Tasmania, the 11th in Queensland and the 13th in Western Australia.
The division was first formed in 1915 as part of the First Australian Imperial Force (1st AIF), and served in the Gallipoli Campaign and on the Western Front World War I.
Apart from a period from 1960 to 1965, the division has existed in one form or another.

Famous quotes containing the word division:
“Major [William] McKinley visited me. He is on a stumping tour.... I criticized the bloody-shirt course of the canvass. It seems to me to be bad politics, and of no use.... It is a stale issue. An increasing number of people are interested in good relations with the South.... Two ways are open to succeed in the South: 1. A division of the white voters. 2. Education of the ignorant. Bloody-shirt utterances prevent division.”
—Rutherford Birchard Hayes (18221893)
