2007 Siberian Orange Snow

The 2007 Siberian orange snow was an anomalous phenomenon that occurred on Friday, February 2, 2007 when an orange-tinted snow fell across an area of 1,500 square kilometres (580 sq mi) in Omsk Oblast, Siberian Federal District, Russia, as well as into the neighbouring oblasts of Tomsk and Tyumen. It was most likely caused by a heavy sandstorm in neighbouring Kazakhstan.

Famous quotes containing the words orange and/or snow:

the great orange bed where we lie
like two frozen paintings in a field of poppies.
    Anne Sexton (1928–1974)

I weathered some merry snow-storms, and spent some cheerful winter evenings by my fireside, while the snow whirled wildly without, and even the hooting of the owl was hushed. For many weeks I met no one in my walks but those who came occasionally to cut wood and sled it to the village.... For human society I was obliged to conjure up the former occupants of these woods.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)
