2007 FIFA Women's World Cup Qualification - Africa

Africa

The 2006 Women's African Football Championship functioned as a qualifying tournament. Originally, this tournament was scheduled to be held in Gabon, but due to "organisational reasons" Gabon withdrew from hosting the competition. 32 teams entered the African Championships and competed for the two available spots, but six withdrew during the qualifying session.

On 7 November 2006, Nigeria and Ghana qualified by virtue of winning their semifinal matches.

Famous quotes containing the word africa:

America is not civil, whilst Africa is barbarous.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)

Are you there, Africa with the bulging chest and oblong thigh? Sulking Africa, wrought of iron, in the fire, Africa of the millions of royal slaves, deported Africa, drifting continent, are you there? Slowly you vanish, you withdraw into the past, into the tales of castaways, colonial museums, the works of scholars.
    Jean Genet (1910–1986)

I thought that when they said Atlantic Charter, that meant me and everybody in Africa and Asia and everywhere. But it seems like the Atlantic is an ocean that does not touch anywhere but North America and Europe.
    Zora Neale Hurston (1891–1960)
