Season Activity
See also: Timeline of the 2007 Atlantic hurricane seasonOverall, the season's activity was reflected with a cumulative accumulated cyclone energy (ACE) rating of 74. ACE is, broadly speaking, a measure of the power of the hurricane multiplied by the length of time it existed, so storms that last a long time, as well as particularly strong hurricanes, have high ACEs. ACE is only calculated for full advisories on tropical systems at or exceeding 34 knots (39 mph, 63 km/h) or tropical storm strength. Subtropical cyclones, such as Andrea or the initial portions of Gabrielle, Jerry, and Olga, are excluded from the total.

Famous quotes containing the words season and/or activity:
“At Christmas I no more desire a rose
Than wish a snow in Mays new-fangled shows,
But like of each thing that in season grows.”
—William Shakespeare (15641616)
“Who shall set a limit to the influence of a human being? There are men, who, by their sympathetic attractions, carry nations with them, and lead the activity of the human race. And if there be such a tie, that, wherever the mind of man goes, nature will accompany him, perhaps there are men whose magnetisms are of that force to draw material and elemental powers, and, where they appear, immense instrumentalities organize around them.”
—Ralph Waldo Emerson (18031882)
