2006 New Zealand Budget
The New Zealand budget for fiscal year 2006-2007 was presented to the New Zealand House of Representatives by Finance Minister Hon. Dr Michael Cullen on 18 May 2006.
This was the seventh budget Michael Cullen has presented as Minister of Finance. Cullen's guiding principle was, he stated, "The fool who spends on the upturn will find himself broke on the downturn".
It has been labelled as the “Bondi Budget” by National party leader Dr Don Brash. Brash stated “Helen Clark and Michael Cullen believe there is a place for tax cuts - it's called Australia”.
The budget allocated an operating spending of $9.6 billion and capital of $2.7 billion over the next four years.

Famous quotes containing the words zealand and/or budget:
“Teasing is universal. Anthropologists have found the same fundamental patterns of teasing among New Zealand aborigine children and inner-city kids on the playgrounds of Philadelphia.”
—Lawrence Kutner (20th century)
“The United States is the only great nation whose government is operated without a budget. The fact is to be the more striking when it is considered that budgets and budget procedures are the outgrowth of democratic doctrines and have an important part in developing the modern constitutional rights.... The constitutional purpose of a budget is to make government responsive to public opinion and responsible for its acts.”
—William Howard Taft (18571930)
