The 2006 Beach Handball World Championships are a ten-team tournament in both men's and women's beach handball, held in the Petrobras Arena at Copacabana beach in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil between 15 November and 19 November. This is the second edition of the event. Matches are played in sets, the team that wins two sets is the winner of a match. When teams are equal in points the head-to-head result is decisive.

Famous quotes containing the words beach and/or world:

We often love to think now of the life of men on beaches,—at least in midsummer, when the weather is serene; their sunny lives on the sand, amid the beach-grass and bayberries, their companion a cow, their wealth a jag of driftwood or a few beach plums, and their music the surf and the peep of the beech-bird.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

“What are the characteristics of today’s world so that one may recognize it by them?” It pays pensions and borrows money: credit and monuments.
    Franz Grillparzer (1791–1872)
