Famous quotes containing the words saint, road and/or race:

A few hours’ mountain climbing turns a rogue and a saint into two roughly equal creatures. Weariness is the shortest path to equality and fraternity—and liberty is finally added by sleep.
    Friedrich Nietzsche (1844–1900)

As life runs on, the road grows strange
With faces new,—and near the end
    The milestones into headstones change,
    ‘Neath every one a friend.
    James Russell Lowell (1819–1891)

I never feel so conscious of my race as I do when I stand before a class of twenty-five young men and women eager to learn about what it is to be black in America.
Claire Oberon Garcia, African American college professor. As quoted in the Chronicle of Higher Education, p. B3 (July 27, 1994)
