2003 AFL Grand Final

The 2003 AFL Grand Final was an Australian rules football game contested between the Brisbane Lions and the Collingwood Football Club, held at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in Melbourne on 27 September 2003. It was the 107th annual Grand Final of the Victorian Football League/Australian Football League, staged to determine the premiers for the 2003 AFL season.

The game was played in front of 79,451 spectators, a smaller attendance than previous years owing to the construction of new seating at the ground for the 2006 Commonwealth Games. Brisbane won by a margin of 50 points, marking that club's third consecutive premiership victory.

Famous quotes containing the words grand and/or final:

An old French sentence says, “God works in moments,”M”En peu d’heure Dieu labeure.” We ask for long life, but ‘t is deep life, or grand moments, that signify. Let the measure of time be spiritual, not mechanical.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)

The place became full of a watchful intentness now; for when other things sank brooding to sleep the heath appeared slowly to awake and listen. Every night its Titanic form seemed to await something; but it had waited thus, unmoved, during so many centuries, through the crises of so many things, that it could only be imagined to await one last crisis—the final overthrow.
    Thomas Hardy (1840–1928)
