2002 Ohio State Buckeyes Football Team

The 2002 Ohio State Buckeyes football team was the national champion of the 2002 college football season. The team was the first in Division I-A (now Division I FBS) history to finish its season at 14–0, and the second to win 14 games, following BYU's 14–1 season in 1996. The Buckeyes' 14–0 record has since been matched by Boise State and Alabama, both in 2009, and again by Auburn in 2010. Led by junior quarterback Craig Krenzel and senior safety Mike Doss, the Buckeyes won the 2003 Fiesta Bowl, which was also the 2003 BCS National Championship Game.

You can’t be a Real Country unless you have A BEER and an airline—it helps if you have some kind of a football team, or some nuclear weapons, but at the very least you need a BEER.
    Frank Zappa (1940–1993)

All inquiry into antiquity, all curiosity respecting the Pyramids, the excavated cities, Stonehenge, the Ohio Circles, Mexico, Memphis,—is the desire to do away this wild, savage, and preposterous There and Then, and introduce in its place the Here and Now.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)

Just across the Green from the post office is the county jail, seldom occupied except by some backwoodsman who has been intemperate; the courthouse is under the same roof. The dog warden usually basks in the sunlight near the harness store or the post office, his golden badge polished bright.
—Administration for the State of Con, U.S. public relief program (1935-1943)

In football they measure forty-yard sprints. Nobody runs forty yards in basketball. Maybe you run the ninety-four feet of the court; then you stop, not on a dime, but on Miss Liberty’s torch. In football you run over somebody’s face.
    Donald Hall (b. 1928)

Once a word is spoken, a team of four horse cannot retake it.
    Chinese proverb.
