2002 BDO World Darts Championship
The 2002 Embassy World Professional Darts Championship was held from 5–13 January 2002 at the Lakeside Country Club in Frimley Green, Surrey. This was the milestone 25th year of the BDO World Championship.
England's John Walton was the defending champion and number 1 seed, but was knocked out 3–2 in the second round by Colin Monk. A surprise name, hemophiliac Tony David from Australia became the World Champion, defeating number 4 seed Mervyn King 6–4 in the final.
This year saw Bobby George become, at 56, the oldest man to play in the World Championship. However, he lost in the first round to number 5 seed, Raymond van Barneveld in a thrilling match.
