1968 Atlantic Hurricane Season - Storm Names

Storm Names

The following names were used for named storms (tropical storms and hurricanes) that formed in the North Atlantic in 1968.

The list is mostly the same as the 1964 season, save for Candy, Dolly, Edna, Frances, Hannah, and Ingrid, which replaced Cleo, Dora, Ethel, Florence, Hilda, and Isbell (although Ethel, Florence, and Isbell were not retired). A storm was named Candy for the first time in 1968. Names that were not assigned are marked in gray.

Famous quotes containing the words storm and/or names:

    Beneath the azure current floweth;
    Above, the golden sunlight glows.
    Rebellious, the storm it wooeth,
    As if the storms could give repose.
    Mikhail Lermontov (1814–1841)

    Shut out that stealing moon,
    She wears too much the guise she wore
    Before our lutes were strewn
    With years-deep dust, and names we read
    On a white stone were hewn.
    Thomas Hardy (1840–1928)
