  • Championship points were awarded on a 9–6–4–3–2–1 basis for the first six positions in each race.
  • Only the best 6 results counted toward the championship. Hill scored 41 points during the year, but only 39 points were counted toward the championship. Surtees scored 40 points, all of which counted toward the championship. Thus, Surtees became the World Champion, although he did not score the most points over the course of the year.

Famous quotes containing the words world and/or final:

You see, in a world where elephants are pursued by flying men, people are just naturally going to want to get high.
Judith Rascoe, U.S. screenwriter, Robert Stone (b. 1939)

The final test of a leader is that he leaves behind him in other men the conviction and the will to carry on.... The genius of a good leader is to leave behind him a situation which common sense, without the grace of genius, can deal with successfully.
    Walter Lippmann (1889–1974)
