1959 Atlantic Hurricane Season - Records

Records

The season set records for the earliest formation of its fourth and fifth storms. Hurricane Cindy was named on July 7, and Hurricane Debra first reached tropical storm strength on July 23, following the development of Tropical Storm Arlene, Tropical Storm Beulah and Hurricane #3. Both of these records were broken in the 2005 season when Dennis formed on July 5 and Emily formed on July 11. The earliest fourth storm record was broken again by Debby of 2012.

Famous quotes containing the word records:

Better the rudest work that tells a story or records a fact, than the richest without meaning.
    John Ruskin (1819–1900)

Philosophy, astronomy, and politics were marked at zero, I remember. Botany variable, geology profound as regards the mud stains from any region within fifty miles of town, chemistry eccentric, anatomy unsystematic, sensational literature and crime records unique, violin player, boxer, swordsman, lawyer, and self-poisoner by cocaine and tobacco.
    Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (1859–1930)

The camera relieves us of the burden of memory. It surveys us like God, and it surveys for us. Yet no other god has been so cynical, for the camera records in order to forget.
    John Berger (b. 1926)
