September 21 SMU opened with a 39-0 win over North Texas and TCU opened its season with a 41-0 win over visiting Howard Payne College.
September 28 SMU beat Austin College 60-0 and TCU beat North Texas 28-11. Pittsburgh had an unexpectedly difficult time in a 14-0 win over visiting Waynesburg College.
