1910 World Missionary Conference

The 1910 World Missionary Conference, or the Edinburgh Missionary Conference, was held June 14 to 23, 1910. Some have seen it as both the culmination of nineteenth-century Protestant Christian missions and the formal beginning of the modern Protestant Christian ecumenical movement.

Famous quotes containing the words world, missionary and/or conference:

Little of this great world can I speak
More than pertains to feats of broils and battle,
And therefore little shall I grace my cause
    In speaking for myself.
    William Shakespeare (1564–1616)

Why have such scores of lovely, gifted girls
    Married impossible men?
Simple self-sacrifice may be ruled out,
And missionary endeavour, nine times out of ten.
    Robert Graves (1895–1985)

For 350 years we have been taught that reading maketh a full man, conference a ready man and writing an exact man. Football’s place is to add a patina of character, a deference to the rules and a respect for authority.
    Walter Wellesley (Red)
